Head Office – Kawerau

Warrick Moore retired in Jan 2021 after a successful 5 years leading MEL. Warrick’s successor, Chris Power, has brought a strong Commercial Management background from Nova Energy.

Our customer base and scope of supply has diversified significantly over the last few years. To meet these challenges MEL has progressively increased our engineering resources.

The Kawerau based team of 35 staff have continued to provide significant services to the pulp and paper, food, energy and chemical industries in the North Island using our multi-disciplinary engineering services.

Work in the Waikato has increased in the last 2 years and we now have 4 people based in the area.

Engineering Design

Shane Archer has recently taken on the role of Engineering Design Team leader. Shane brings over 30 years of heavy industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Project Management and Process experience to MEL.

The Design Team has been busy providing design, draughting, CFD & FEA analysis, design verification and stress analysis solutions for our customers. During this year our team has delivered significant plant piping and structural modelling projects along with design and engineering modifications to existing process plants including piping, tanks, platforms and accessways.

We have also provided services such as maintenance planning, P&ID modifications, shut preparedness and engineering for customers such as OJI Fibre Solutions, Red Stag Timber, Mercury Energy, Evonik and Lawter.

MEL had another member of the team achieve CPEng status this year.

Projects and Construction

MEL secured several senior Project Managers this year to add to the growing team. Demand for the team’s services have been extremely strong this year and they have worked hard to meet customer requirements.

Significant areas of work have been Matahina Dam Dewatering gate upgrade, Whakatane Mill PM3 Saveall project, Essity PM3 Vacuum System and assisting several customers with significant work during their 2021 maintenance shutdowns.

Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (EI&C)

Our EI&C team was started in July 2019 by John Bazley and has become a key part of MEL’s capability. The delivery of MCC upgrade design work to a major MEL customer has continued to be a mainstay of workload but other work has continued to grow based on the quality of the work delivered.

The EI&C team now has Functional Safety Engineering capability.
