Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer

We are seeking an experienced E&I Engineer with 5+ years’ experience and proven skills. Competitive total remuneration will be offered to the successful candidate.

Mainstream Engineering (MEL) is an established industrial engineering consultancy with offices in Kawerau, Hamilton and Nelson, New Zealand. We are also supported by personnel in Auckland, Waikato, Tauranga, Wellington, and Christchurch.

Our experienced team of professional engineers, project managers, designers, and construction supervisors annually deliver practical, compliant, and cost-effective professional service. Being mobile and responsive, MEL staff work collaboratively with our clients, applying both technical expertise and practical experience to provide quality engineering and project delivery support.

Our experienced Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (EI&C) team are professionally qualified EI&C engineers or tertiary qualified (Level 6 Diploma) with an industrial trade background. We are looking for a self-performing ‘superstar,’ who is comfortable on site or in an office, client facing and has the ability to deliver study and design outcomes and safely deliver maintainable, fit for purpose solutions on time and within budget for both our internal and external clients. You will take pride in exceeding customer expectations.

This role is based at our head office, situated at the entranceway to the Industrial Park in Kawerau, Eastern Bay of Plenty. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed.

Key skills and attributes for this role include:

  • Proven conceptual understanding of what is required to meet clients’ needs
  • Experience in an engineering consultancy environment
  • Experience in full project lifecycle delivery
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or relevant trade background + a tertiary qualification (Level 6 Diploma)
  • Is familiar with and can apply the NZ electrical regulations (AS/NZS 3000)
  • Is familiar with Machine safety & Functional Safety (and ideally, FSEng certified)
  • Is familiar with Capital Cost estimating
  • Previous industrial electrical project experience
  • Be a focused team player, with a passion for getting it right the first time
  • Innovative thinking, taking a concept to the design and then to the drawing stage
  • Methodical and organised and committed to ensuring designs meet professional standards
  • Competent with Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • 5+ years (post-grad/post-apprenticeship) experience essential
